First year in college?

Is this your first year in college?  Here's my opinion!  :)

1.  Live on campus your first year.
Whether it may or may not be required for freshmen to live in the residence halls their first year, DO IT ANYWAY.  I've lived in the residence halls for three years now (I'm a junior) and I love it.  I love living on campus because it's close to EVERYTHING.  Not only that, but you meet tons and tons of people in your residence halls.  That's how I met one of my best friends.  We were roommates our freshman year and have been best of friends since.  Trust me, you'll love it.

2.  Want to be involved?
There are a lot of clubs on your university!  Whether it's sports or music or even something like yo-yo'ing, your campus might have it!  If not, talk to your student involvement and see how you can start a club!  At BSU, you just need three or four people to start a club.
Not interested in being a club?  Look into becoming an RA (Resident Assistant).  There are a lot of perks to being an RA such as working with different people, meeting and making new friends, and interacting with college students who are just like you.  I have been an RA for two years now and I love it.  Check out your housing website for more details.

3.  Take as many generals as you can your first two years.
Even though you may know what you want, it's always a good idea to take a lot of the 101 classes your first two years.  I came in "knowing" I was going to be a news broadcaster my freshman year.  I didn't take a lot of generals because my degree plan was so broad, I could take just about anything.  I'm in my junior year now, and I have changed my major three times.  I will be graduating a semester or two later than my planned graduation year.  Why?  Because I didn't take the time to explore.  I didn't take Psych 101, Pols 101, Biol 100 or any other gens until my sophomore and junior year.  I regret it.  So explore your first four semesters!

4.  Get a part time job!
It may be hard to work 30 hours a week and take 18 credits your freshman year.  But having a part time job will keep you... somewhat sane.  Not only that, but you'll have some cash to spend!  Try not to work more than 15 hours at a job so you have time to focus on your studies.

What's YOUR advice?
